LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. – Ulysses Grant Dietz, curator of Decorative Arts at the Newark Museum, will present a lecture titled “What Happened When Pots Became Art” on Thursday, Feb. 23, during the preview for Rago’s 20th/21st Century Design Auction. Rago Arts and Auction Center will open that day at noon Eastern. A reception begins at 5 p.m. and Dietz will speak at 6 p.m.

Dietz will discuss ceramics as art, contrasting how this idea was apprehended in the 19th century and how multiple aesthetics came to be bracketed by the market into what we now call American art pottery.

Dietz has been collecting American art pottery for the Newark Museum for over 30 years.

This lecture is co-sponsored by the Appraisers Association of America.

Rago Arts and Auction Center is located at 333 N. Main St., Lambertville, NJ 08530
