Big metal shines at Dianni's Palm Beach Auction, Feb. 19-20 |

LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding. The auction will take place at the Palm Beach Hilton Hotel at 150 Austrailian Ave. in West Palm Beach, FL 33406. Day 1 categories will include furniture from the 18th through mid- 20th centuries mainly from the estate of Arthur Connolly, lighting including six early 20th century lamps with leaded and painted glass shades, art glass from a Jacksonville estate, 10 lots of Peking glass from the Gadient collection, 100 paintings from various consignors including a fresh-to-market Salvador Dali signed verso (unauthenticated) circa 1932 gouache. There will also be 30 bronzes including a Kenneth Armitage acrobats and 30 lots of antique and vintage jewelry. Among the jewelry is a signed Van Cleefe and Arpels convertible necklace that transforms to two bracelets having 10 carats of diamonds on 18-karat gold. Day 2 will feature 200 lots from the James Mangan III collection of arms, military and Native American items. Featured firearms are two Winchesters with deluxe stocks, one deeply engraved with gold-plated inlays, several Colt revolvers including one shipped from Colt to Walter Tips, a state senator from Austin, Texas, and a LeMat nine-shot percussion revolver made for the Confederate States of America. The Mangan collection also includes numerous pieces of Native American items such as a beaded storage bag, a prostitute’s beaded holster with derringer, a tobacco pipe bag and a war drum decorated with an image of a wounded horse. Other rarities from this collection include a salesman’s sample ten fold “book” of fishing hooks completely intact and dating to the 19th century, a dirigible steering mechanism, snowshoes made by a member of Wild Bill’s Wild West Show and a World War II broadside for the five Sullivan brothers, who died in 1942 after their Navy cruiser was torpedoed. Other highlights from various consignors include a circa 1350 broad sword, a musket with profuse brass inlays and having heraldic engraved decoration circa 1600, a commodore’s Civil War frock coat that reportedly belonged to William D. Porter, a Decatur family Civil War flag with 34 stars and sewn tag with the name Decatur on it, and numerous swords and sabers including an early 19th century “American Lighthorse” example. First to sell on Monday will be a restored 1929 Chrysler Series 75, one of only eight convertibles made.
