On the top end of the scale are a Class Room Chair by German artist and architect Stefan Wewerka and a Casablanca sideboard designed by Ettore Sottsass, each estimated at 5,000-6,000 euro ($6,645-$7,975). Werweka’s work ranges from office furnishing to buildings. Beginning as an architect, Werweka later devoted himself to object art, where the desk and the chair have been his preferred mediums. He designed the Class Room Chair in 1970. The chairs were part of a classroom installation at a Cologne gallery in 1971. Sottsass, also an architect, designed the famous Casablanca sideboard in 1981. It was made by Memphis in Milan, Italy, and bears the maker’s mark. On as smaller scale is Jesœs Rafael Soto’s Kinetic Object, which measures just over 21 inches long and nearly 7 inches high. The work is composed of Perspex, which is similar to Lucite, metal rods and nylon threads. It is signed “Soto” on a paper label and is inscribed "161/200." It has an estimate of 3,500-4,000 euro ($4,650-$5,315). Murano glass highlights include Alessandro Pianon’s “Pulcino” bird, designed in 1962 and made by Vetreria Vistosi. The 12-inch bird features clear cased glass with petrol green layer and murrhines bands in red and blue, fused murrhines as eyes, and legs of hammered copper wire. It carries an estimate of 2,400-2,800 euro ($3,190-$3,720). Tapio Wirkkala’s “Bolle” bottle was designed in 1966 and made by Venini & C. The 8-inch fused glass bottle of amber and green has the engraved mark “venini italia tw.” From the collection of a German art historian, the bottle is estimated at 330-400 euro ($440-$530). Another art glass highlight is an “Incamiciato” vase with handles by Fratelli Toso. The 10-inch vase of cased glass of clear, milky white and eggshell yellow with handles, rim and foot in dark purple dates to the 1930. Estimate: 500-600 euro, $665-$795.
