EPHRATA, Pa. – Horst Auctioneers will be conduct its winter catalog antique auction on Friday, Feb. 17, and Saturday, Feb. 18. The auction consists of antiques and decorative arts from several local collections, as well as items sold by the Heritage Center of Lancaster County. The Heritage Center is selling items to benefit their collections fund.

Internet live bidding will be provided by LiveAuctioneers.com.

Friday’s session commences at 1 p.m. and features a variety of art pottery, early china and glassware, lighting, duck decoys and wooden carvings. Highlighting the session, and perhaps the entire auction, is a phenomenal Tiffany Studios three-shade table lamp. Estimated at $12,000-$16,000, the lamp is part of a collection of Tiffany and other art glass to be sold at the auction. The Friday session also includes a Rookwood Iris vase.

The session will conclude with a variety of duck decoys and several modern wood carvings by artists including Daniel Strawser and Keith Collis.

Saturday will begin with a selection of antique toys, many from a longtime Lancaster city collection. Tin character toys including Popeye, Pluto and Lil’ Abner always draw a lot of interest.

The auction features an exceptional assortment of antique pottery, most from the same Lancaster collection. Mugs attributed to John Zellers and Shenfelder pottery (Reading, Pa.) as well as several cobalt decorated pitchers will be the focal point of the category, which also features many pieces of Pennsylvania redware.

An interesting variety of Pennsylvania butter prints will be offered on the auction as well as a selection of vibrant antique quilts.

A fraktur birth record by Jacob Fleischer and descended in the Bomberger family of northern Lancaster County is estimated at $800-$1,200. Another interesting item is a miniature blanket chest with decoration in the manner of the Seltzer family (Lebanon County, Pa.). The chest is estimated at $1,000-$1,500.

The auction will culminate with 48 lots of antique and reproduction furniture. There is a collection of well-made Walter Steely (Lititz, Pa.) Windsor chairs. Also included is a group of early 18th century spinning equipment, which was exhibited at the Lititz Fair in 1896. Two tall-case clocks from the Heritage Center highlight the category, one of which is signed by George Hoff Jr. (Lancaster, Pa).

The auction includes 828 lots. A preview will be held from 5-9 p.m. Thursday prior to the auction, 8 a.m. through the auction on Friday, and 7 a.m. through the auction on Saturday.
