New Orleans Auction Galleries loaded for July 30-31 auction

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Auction Galleries Inc. will offer property from several fine Southern estates in their July 30-31 auction, including the estate of Seymour Weiss of Greenville, Miss. LiveAuctioneers.com will provide Internet live bidding.

Weiss’ taste and refinement is reflected in his collection of decorative arts, which includes fine glassware by Lalique, Baccarat and Steuben, as well as an impressive collection of early 20th-century Chicago Arts & Crafts silver.

Also in this sale are items from the Strachan Home in Brunswick, Ga. Built in 1900 by shipping magnate Frank Duncan MacPherson Strachan, this 9,000-square-foot mansion sits in the historic district of Brunswick and remains a well-known landmark today.

Other collections in this sale include important early 20th-century art glass and lighting by L.C. Tiffany, Quezal, Steuben, Loetz, Handel and Daum Nancy.

Among the fine art to be offered is a recently discovered, large and impressive oil on canvas by Helen Maria Turner (American/Louisiana, 1858-1958) titled Late Afternoon. Also featured is a large collection of works by Robert Gordy from a Lake Charles, La., estate, including drawings, sculptures, paintings and prints, which were given to the consignor’s family by the artist, as well as works by George Dunbar from a Tucson, Ariz., collector.

Saturday’s session will begin at 10 a.m. Central. Sunday’s sale will begin at 11 a.m.
